Responsibility

There is no question that our language contains some words that simply strike fear in our heart. One of them is responsibility.” Finger pointing or the letting-god-take-the-blame game is rampant in our society. I think Harry Truman was the last president we had who admitted that the buck stopped here – meaning the oval office. Seems that ever since then the exercise of pointing at someone else has risen to an art form.

I am always reminded that Nature is our day to day code book and everything we need to know, or understand, is contained therein. Following that thought, we do not find anything in Nature that is passing the buck. No tree blames another tree because it itsn’t getting enough light or water. Everything does its best and moves on.

Finger pointing and blame finding is an exercise in self degradation. We are not born accusers, it is a learned negative habit and one that proliferates as it is used. Self honesty is one of the highest levels one can attain to as a human being. Willingness to assume one’s resonsibility is the key to that attainment. No one is ever going to be right all the time. Making “mistakes” is as natural as breathing and is seldom earth shaking.
